In addition to general performance opportunities, the Kanata Music Club offers a graded scholarship program. This program is available to students of teachers who regularly attend our concerts as markers. A scholarship Application form must be submitted by the teacher prior to the student’s first performance of scholarship repertoire. Scholarship repertoire is to be selected from a recognized conservatory exam syllabus at the student’s specified grade level, and performed by memory. Decisions on the awarding of these scholarships are made on the basis of marks given by teachers, and the scholarships are presented at the June Awards Concert.
About twenty five scholarships are awarded each season, and there is an effort to award at least one scholarship from every grade level.
Scholarship repertoire should be chosen according to the graded outline (see below) and must be performed by memory. One piece may be selected from one grade higher, as is allowed in conservatory exams.
Students up to level 9 who have received a scholarship may not reapply for the same level scholarship in future years. At the Grade 10 and ARCT level it is possible to divide the required repertoire evenly over two years, becoming eligible for a half scholarship for each year.
Teachers sometimes want their students to perform a piece that they do NOT want to be part of the student's marked scholarship repertoire, for instance, a second List A piece. Teachers can indicate this by adding "not for scholarhip" in the box where the composition is listed on the Concert Request Form. This information will be added to the Teacher Marking sheet.

The Lillian Jackson Memorial Trophy has been awarded since 1996 to a Kanata Music Club member at the senior level who has performed with excellence at our concerts for several years. The recipient is chosen by the Executive and presentation of the trophy is made at the June Awards concert.
Each year the Kanata Music Club donates scholarship money to the Kiwanis Music Festival to be awarded at their discretion.
